A Baroque Revival
For Zara Man's 2018 Dark Baroque collection, we reimagined classical baroque motifs through a contemporary lens. The centerpiece design merges various elements of traditional baroque ornamentation - an imperial crown, elaborate scrollwork, and a detailed moth illustration - creating a coat of arms for the modern age. The use of metallic gold foil creates an interplay of light that brings the intricate illustration to life, while sequences of white rays emanating from the crown suggest divine right reimagined for streetwear royalty.
The technical execution was crucial to achieving the design's impact. Multiple printing techniques were employed: Metallic gold foil for brilliance, lurex embroidery and sequins for luxury, and black flock for subtle texture in the tone-on-tone elements. This combination, along with the precision required for the detailed illustration, resulted in a piece that feels both opulent and wearable. Placed on premium black garments - from t-shirts to sweatshirts - the design maintains its strength across different applications, becoming a signature piece that bridges classical luxury with contemporary street style.
